After spending time researching, I was able to further understand the concept and significance of house styles. A house style is essentially how the writer/editor constructs and places together the titles, pictures, font and size of texts, and color scheme of the magazine. The consistency of the layout of magazines is very important. Being consistent with the house styles demonstrates dependability, organization, and other qualities that can make a reader more likely to buy the magazine and remain a customer. The type of house style is also very important depending on what type of magazine is produced. If a business magazine is being produced, it would look good to have non-vibrant colors, clear text, and images appropriate to the theme within the magazine. If a business magazine were to have the opposite of what was listed, it may appear unusual and unappealing to the potential customer. Thus, working on a house style with the genre in mind is of great importance.
The concept and significance of a house style has never occurred to me before researching this topic. The producers of magazines have to put in a lot of time and dedication towards the creation of their products. Without it, they would not be able to have insight as to what would be the most appealing to the potential customer.
