Camera Composition

In this blog post, I will be discussing the effects of different camera compositions that are utilized for film.

Framing:

- Framing is the use of elements to create a frame within a camera frame.

Rule of Thirds:

The rule of thirds is the process of maintaining an imaginary grid that assists with positioning the image in the most natural way. This composition helps the camera holder position the subject in a way that demonstrates his/her features. The picture above shows the viewer the grid that is utilized for assisting with positioning the subject, which in this case for demonstration purposes, is not imaginary.

Depth of Field-Deep Focus:

- In a deep focus frame, the subject and background are very sharp and clear. This demonstrate details in the background and allows the viewers to embrace the entire frame. The image above demonstrates a visible, focused view of the subject and the background.

Depth of Field- Shallow Focus:

- Similar to deep focus, a shallow focus frame illustrates the subject as sharp and clear, but the background is unfocused and blurry. A shallow focus frame allows the viewer to focus only on the subject, which can display many effects, such as isolating the subject, emphasizing an emotion, or to even capture an important detail. The image above shows a dog that seems to be alert, which is emphasized due to the camera focusing on him.

Focus Pulls:

- A focus pull is a technique that changes the focus lens of the camera during the shot. The technique can include big or small changes of focus. The two pictures that are provided above illustrate the change of focus from the dog's face to the seat and his paw.
