Using Camera Shots

In the following text, I will be describing the various types of camera shots that film makers utilize to convey certain ideas and relationships.

Close Up:

- Close up shots illustrates the subject's thoughts and emotions. The shot also emphasizes details of the subject. In the picture above, the dog clearly looks aware and alert, which the close up shot allows the viewer to see.

Mid-Shot:

- A mid-shot is usually a neutral-looking frame which demonstrates the subject's size similarly to how we interact with people. The mid-shot starts to show the subject from below the chest, but above the waist. In the picture above,

Long Shot:

- A long shot shows the subject's full body. It can be useful to signify the subject's body language and the environment they're in. The picture provided shows the subjects' full body and their background at the same time.

Wide Shot:

- A wide shot usually shows the relationship between people and their environments in order to captivate the scale of the people. This can portray the subjects as lonely. In the picture provided, the viewer is able to see the dog by himself on the sidewalk, as well as the environment he is in.

Two Shot:

- A two shot frame portrays two people with their faces shown visibly in the camera's frame. This shot demonstrates a relationship between the two people. In the image above, two individuals are shown with their faces clearly visible. This two shot frame demonstrates a friendship type of relationship between the two girls.

Point of View Shot:

- A point of view shot can be demonstrated in many different ways, but ultimately illustrates the perspective of the subject. In the image above, the viewer above can see the subject ( in this case it is me ) with her hand in the dog's mouth. This type of shot lets the viewer see my perspective.
